Cerelle Contraception

Cerelle Contraception - What is Cerelle?

Cerelle, also known as the mini pill, is a progesterone only contraceptive pill which helps prevent pregnancy due to unprotected sex. This mini pill contains the active ingredient Desogestrel which is a synthetic version of the hormone progesterone. Cerelle, like many other mini pills, does not contain oestrogen. This makes it a suitable option for women who are unable to take contraception containing oestrogen, especially those who are breastfeeding.

Are there any side effects with Cerelle?

Like many women’s contraception, Cerelle is generally safe and suitable for most. However, some women may experience mild side effects while taking Cerelle. Other common side effects of taking Cerelle can include:

  • Acne
  • Mood changes
  • Changes in libido
  • Weight gain or loss

Everyone’s experience can differ when it comes to taking medication. Not all people will experience these side effects, although some people may be more sensitive to the ingredients then others. How does Cerelle work?

Cerelle works by preventing ovulation. This means that the ovaries do not release an egg each month. As a result, a pregnancy cannot occur without an egg being released. Cerelle also helps to thicken the cervical mucus, which makes it more difficult for sperm to travel through the cervix and reach an egg. Cerelle is known to be more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy making it a great option for many women. By taking Cerelle at the same time each day, this will help maintain its effectiveness and provide a great level of protection against unplanned pregnancies.
