How to take Qlaira

Qlaira needs to be taken consistently and at the same time each day to ensure it works effectively. Each pack of Qlaira contains 28 pills which come in different colours. These coloured pills and the labelled blister strip provide a guide on how to take the pills in a particular order. Once a pack is finished, you should start the next pack immediately without taking any breaks. Some women may experience a withdrawal bleed during the last few pills; however, this is completely normal. If you do accidentally take a pill late or miss ir, it could reduce the protection it provides and increase the risk of pregnancy.

What are the side effects?

As with all medication, Qlaira may cause side effects, however, no all women experience them. Here are some of the most common side effects:

• Nausea
• Headaches
• Breast tenderness
• Mood changes
• Acne
• Irregular bleeding
• Loss of libido

During the first few months of taking Qlaira, some women may also experience breakthrough bleeding or even spotting. This is because the body can take a while to adjusts to the hormones. These side effect often settle over time. However, you do experience severe side effects for the pills, seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Are there any benefits of taking Qlaira?

Qlaira provides over 99% of protection against pregnancy when taken correctly, and may also provide several other benefits. Qlaira can also be prescribed to help support heavy bleeding, regulate your menstrual cycles and manage hormonal fluctuations, such as symptoms associated with PMS. Qlaira contains the active hormone estradiol valerate, which some women may find it more tolerable and gentle compared to other traditional combined contraceptive pills.

Is Qlaira suitable for everyone?

Qlaira is a safe and effective contraceptive for many women, however it may not be suitable for everyone. Qlaira is  generally not recommended if you:

• Are pregnant or think you may be pregnant
• Have recently given birth
• Have a history of blood clots
• Have high blood pressure
• Have certain liver or heart conditions
• Experience migraines with aura

Qlaira, and some other combined contraceptive pills are not recommended for women over the age of 35, and who smoke. This is because it may increase the risk of blood clots and cardiovascular issues. Your medical history and lifestyle will be reviewed to ensure it is the most suitable contraceptive method for you.
