How to take Zoely

Zoely should to be taken at the same time on a daily basis for it to work properly to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Therefore, missing a pill or taking it late can reduce the overall effectiveness and put you at risk of getting pregnant. Each pack contains 28 pills, of which 24 are active white pills containing hormones and 4 are inactive yellow pills which are a placebo.  The blister strip is clearly labelled with arrows to help you follow the correct order to take a pill daily. Once you have completed a pack, you should start the next pack immediately without taking a break. During the time you take the 4 inactive pills, it is very common to experience withdrawal bleeding, which is very similar to a period. You may find that during the first few months of taking hormonal contraceptive, you may experience spotting as the body adjusts to the medication.

What are the side effects?

All medication can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Here are some of the most common side effects which you may experience when taking Zoely:

• Headaches
• Nausea
• Breast tenderness
• Mood changes
• Acne
• Irregular bleeding
• Loss in libido

Side effects usually settle over time. However, seek medical advice if they become severe or more persistent.

Are there any benefits of taking Zoely?

Although Zoely is designed as a birth control pill, it can also provide additional benefit to some women. Zoely can be prescribed to help regulate periods and reduce symptoms relating to hormonal fluctuations. Zoely contains estradiol, which is similar to estrogen, which some women can find it to be a suitable alternative to the traditional combined contraceptive pills.

Is Zoely suitable for everyone?

Zoely is a safe, reliable and effective contraceptive for many women, however, it may not be suitable for all. Zoely may not be recommended if you:

• Are pregnant or think you may be pregnant
• Have recently given birth
• Have a history of blood clots
• Have high blood pressure
• Have certain liver or heart conditions
• Experience migraines with aura

Zoely is often not recommended for women over the age of 35, and who smoke. This is because it can increase the risk of blood clots and cardiovascular issues.
